Entry is FREE! This event is only for the current/ex-students of Hayakawa.
We at Hayakawa are happy to invite one and all to the online Hanami celebration.
In this year, Hayakawa Japanese Language School and Cultural Center in association with FUJITSU, will be conducting Ikebana competition on 12th May 2022 at 6:30PM.
A little about Hanami:
Hanami which literally stands for Flower Viewing is a Japanese festival that is celebrated as the Cherry blossoms start blooming in the country in the end of March to beginning of May. The festival is a custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers, with family and friends, by having an outdoor party beneath the Sakura trees. In such fleeting tranquillity of the scattering Sakura petals, the people beneath gaze and enjoy the view before getting back to their usual lives.
On that note, we have thought of a beautiful way to celebrate our own Hanami. Although we may not be able to see the real Sakura trees, we believe that showing of our own Ikebana would be a wonderful and refreshing replacement to that.
What is Ikebana you ask?
Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. This is an old tradition where a variety of real flowers are arranged in a pot while they are alive to achieve an artistic result. You can view the video link for reference.
What you need to do:
In order to participate in the event, you must create your own Ikebana!
You can arrange these flowers in your own artistic way and send us a picture of the end result. As you may not be able to find the exact tools used in an Ikebana, you can either have them as potted plants or Flower Rangolis or Bouquet arranging or in Vases or Baskets etc., it’s up to you to show us your creativity.
Please feel free to use any type of flowers or plants you want; but, please note that, in order to bring out the full effect of the refreshing Hanami festival, these flowers have to be real!
And during the event, while showing off your beautiful creations you can tell us the story behind coming up with that piece of artwork and what it means to you.
About Ikebana competition:
During the event, the judges will give points and will decide the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes.
All participants will receive a certificate from Hayakawa in association with Fujitsu.
We really hope that this event would turn out amazing and refreshing like the fresh flowers at a Hanami!
Registration and pictures of your IKEBANA must reach us on or before 07 May 2022. Details regarding the online celebration will be sent to the participants before the event i.e. 11-05-2022.
